SEAN O'ROURKE IS A FAG

Dave DuCille 4/6/08 9:16 am

My first Hobart experience was freshman year, fall of 95. A girl on my floor Renee dated this guy Sean. He was a junior and lived on Hobart Ln. We went to his apt to watch UMass take on the #1 ranked Kentucky Wildcats because back then the on campus cable tv was virtually non existent (how did we survive with no MTV and ESPN is beyond me). Umass pulled off the upset for the 3rd straight year of beating the #1 ranked team. Obviously that was the greatest year in Umass hoops and some of my greatest memories. Long live Hobart, Brandywine, Pufton, Baybank and hell even Mill Valley!

You want to get the Ho-Down going again? That's great! Check out the Stuff on cafepress. I have the green bumper sticker that looks like the street sign on my car, and without fail, every place I go, people beep and point, yell "Hobart Lane" out the window. Same thing when I wear a shirt out. Everybody knows it, so START HAVING W/E PARTIES leading up to the Ho-Down!

That is a great story! Anybody know "Rick"? Love to hear his reaction when he got back! As for the return of the Ho-Down, I say you email this web site to as many people at umass (I graduated and don't have an "edu" anymore...)seeing the pics and stories should get the campus aching for another Ho-Down!!

I can’t remember whether or not this story comes from Hoedown '99 or '00 so maybe someone will see this and recall the same event for clarification. I was there all day long drinking with friends. Cops kept stopping by during the day and clearing people out but luckily we were friends with some kids who lived on the lane and were able to retreat into the house anytime they started rounding up party-goers. In the end the cops just stayed on the street and resigned to busting anyone that tried to leave with a beer in their hand, they must have realized they could not stop people from coming. As night began to fall, one of the apartments decided to start a fire out back. So in true umass style, beer pong tables, chairs and anything wood outside got thrown on the fire to get it raging pretty strong. After a while, it became apparent that we were running out of things to burn. Next thing I know, this is kid yells "Hey everyone! Rick is home visiting his parents! (I'm using the name "Rick" only because I have no idea what the kid's real name was) He wouldn’t want this party to stop! Let’s burn all his shit!" And as sure as I'm sitting here typing this tale, the mob ran into the apartment and proceeded to pick up "Rick's" bed, couch, dresser, desk, cloths, books and even the posters on his walls and burnt them all to ashes. The last thing I remember hearing that night as I watched "Rick's" possessions burn was "Whoa dude, Rick is going to be so pissed". Thanks Hobart Lane, I'll never forget that!

I live in Hobart this year and we NEED to bring back the HOEDOWN. Ive heard to many good stories and it is necessary to continue the tradition. Any idea on how to get people back in it?

Ho Down 01'
My girlfriend at the time (a non-umassian) wanted to leave early and we got into a fight... she stormed down the street with a beer in her hand and GOT ARRESTED... it was one of the most memorable and rewarding nights of my Umass Career... Thank you Hobart Lane.
