I first got the idea for this web site when I was in, of all places, Budapest, Hungary. While in a pub, I heard the familiar twang of Reveah. After the obligatory "Kellllly's" Roast Beef exchange, I told him I went to Umass, his first words were "Ahhh, the Hobart Ho-Down" followed by a tip of the pints and a toast, and a drunken "you should start a web site!"
So, while it continues to be a work in progress, please browse the site, email your tips and suggestions; CONTRIBUTE. Tell us your war stories, try and find old friends (screw MySpace), UPLOAD UMASS PICS, Photoshop the Street Sign and upload it!
Check out The Lane merchandise. You wouldn't believe the people who come up to us all around Boston when we wear our Hobart Lane tee shirts! Walking around in the rain Marathon Monday, every block somebody was pointing and toasting to The Lane...If you've spotted us around Town, post it!
Make us your home page, as the site is updated daily!

1985 was the first kegger - no fancy-ass name, no signage. Just a bunch of thirsty idiots who put Hobart Lane on the map. I lived in the center Gilreath building with Fabs (Springfield), Schmen (Lexington), Bret (Longmeadow) and Corey (Swampscott). The 3 am stereo blast of choice was usually the Stones (Can't You Hear Me Knockin') or Springsteen (Rosalita), or was it Allman Bros. (Whipping Post)? At the first bash, we rolled an old Toyota over in the parking lot. It was owned by our local Vietnamese coke dealer named Hu. That first night there was one tragedy - our 4-footer (you know what I mean- you needed 2 people to operate it) was stolen! Yeah, stolen...I know! We experienced alot of funny shit in that place. Met my wife in Barsie's. Got kicked in the head repeatedly by the rugby frat (yeah - the whole frat) on the ground in the alley next to Time Out. Beta Kapa Doucha Bagas or something like that. Ate shrooms at Southwest block party - fuckin mental. Time of your life kid!
I hesitate to admit I was a founding member of this.. 1988 was the first year - Chuck, Dan, Chris, Paul and Jeff - Gilreath Manor, center building, 2 apt from the right..
I lived on Hobart back in 74-76 when it was a nice family place and the students who lived there placed loud music. I wish i was there now..
